Diving Deep with Destro’s Frogmen! G.I. Joe 1990 Undertow Figure Review

Story By Mitchell Smith
Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at 1990 Undertow. His file card lists him as Destro’s frogmen, and an elite diver with a special designed suit to dive through any environment such as oil and sludge. Undertow Does make his way into the animated series and into the comics for what I could gather, but even AI mode on Google could not confirm, so maybe one of our comic experts here can confirm that. This figure is sharp looking and has some really nice detail. He comes with a small water sled with a missile for one precise hit. He also has a harpoon and a lovable little pet barracuda.
Undertow was out of my wheelhouse as a kid but I quickly picked him up when I started collecting. He is a sharp figure with a nice color scheme. I can’t put him over the Eel or Hydro-Viper (who only ever got 1 version) and may become next week’s story, but Undertow is a close third for Cobra divers. There were various other versions including a 2015 that was included in a Club Exclusive Box Set Tiger Force vs Iron Grenadier for$375. By today’s standards that was a really great price but I did not get that. As far as Classified goes this would be a really great figure.
There were several Destro’s Iron Grenadier figures released in Classified and I think this would be awesome. Overall the 1990 version is a great figure and even though I only have one and use him as a standalone character he can be an army builder as they were a group of soldiers in the cartoon. Who had Undertow as a kid? Was he super cool back in the day? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
